On the 21 of October, Bass Coast Shire Council unanimously rejected planning permit application PDPLANPER 2026/000285, citing overwhelming community opposition. The application, submitted by McDonalds, sought approval to open a 24/7 convenience restaurant at 157 Thompson Avenue and 190-194 Settlement Rd in Cowes.
Following a period of public consultation, the council received a significant volume of objections from local residents, community groups, and environmental organizations.
The developer has indicated they are considering their options, which could include an appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
